Our Sliding Match Safe shares the same construction as our bestselling strongboxes. The body is formed from 22-gauge American cold-rolled steel and finished in a durable powder coat. Made in the USA, it has a tighter fit and a cleaner finish than any previous version. The drawer glides open and closes with a magnetic catch, so contents won't accidentally spill out. At the end of the drawer sits a custom Best Made brass pull, knurled for grip and doubling as a striker: draw a strike-anywhere match across it and it catches. Brass won’t rust, and with years of handling it trades its bright finish for a warm patina. The safe holds a full box of matches, so refilling it is as simple as emptying one box in. Unlike paint, powder coating does not require a solvent to suspend the pigment and resin particles. Powder coating has low volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions, a result of its solvent-free composition. And unlike paint, virtually 100% of the powder particles that are oversprayed in the application process are recycled. Durability is also a key benefit to powder coating, as it yields a harder, more wear-resistant finish than conventional liquid paints. Additionally, powder coating offers great coverage, particularly on edges and corners, spots that are often challenging for liquid coatings.
