Met Gala Series: Camp
If you know me, then you know the Met Gala is my Super Bowl😌✨ So in honor of leading up to it, I wanted to create Streetwear & contemporary looks to represent the last 20 years of Met Gala themes (2006–2025). I have a quick description of what each celebrated + the red carpet vibe. I hope you enjoy this series & would love to hear what Met Gala themes were your favorites!🖤✨
2019 — Camp: Notes on Fashion
Inspired by Susan Sontag’s essay on camp aesthetics.
Vibe: exaggerated, theatrical, over-the-top fabulousness.
So at first i was going to create 2 looks but as i built on the first one i kinda loved it on its own. I was very much inspired with Lady Gaga’s ICONIC entrance to this Met Gala as she was one of the chairs for it. Her and Brandon Maxwell came out with 4 different looks. I will never forget them just removing layer after layer on the carpet. It set the tone for the exhibit and event. So i played on the colors of black and pink. I opted for a ballet pink. Most of the look is Moschino as no one did Camp as well as Moschino when Jeremy Scott was designing for them. I doubled the purses because camp. These dramatic opera gloves from Dolce and Gabbana were so perfect for this look and a beret with short front veil felt theatrical. I also couldn’t resist adding in this trench from Max Mara because it’s just a perfect surprise of colors. I think altogether everything works perfectly. I really had fun with this one.
