The Grainau, our newest boot icon, has been constructed with a midsole and storm-welt that can be repaired and replaced over time and includes Deep Blue Footbed technology and Vibram soles for comfort and grip. Made from vegetable-tanned leather with a water-repellent finish, it has been assembled in Germany. - Upper: Leather, flesh side out - Footbed: Deep Blue Footbed - Sole: Traditional Vibram rubber outsole - Branding: BIRKENSTOCK branding in sole - Packaging: Exclusive brown heritage packaging with “Schuh Bertl” engraving Material details about product materials Upper material: Natural leather The natural leather that we use is mostly smooth leather, in some cases tumbled leather. This type of leather has many special characteristics, such as breathability, adaptation to the shape of the foot and durability. Insole: Microfibre Microfibre is a skin-friendly material which is soft and yet tear-resistant. Because they are free of animal products they are used as the covering material for the lining of footbeds in vegan products, among other things. Footbed material: Polyurethane Polyurethane (PU) is a flexible, water- and dirt-repellent synthetic material which makes footwear easy to care for. Outsole: Rubber Because of its high elasticity rubber is very well suited for outsoles. Thanks to this property it supports the natural rolling motion of the foot. Rubber is also very robust and has good cushioning.
