GIORGIO ARMANIARMANI/ARCHIVIO FW1990 SINGLE-BREASTED WAISTCOAT
Lookbook
Description
This waistcoat is the new edition of a style from the FW1990 Collection, a reinterpretation that is part of a four-piece outfit: jacket, shirt, waistcoat and trousers. Photographed by Aldo Fallai for the Autumn/Winter campaign of that year, this look represents a significant moment in the brand's aesthetic narrative, as it reflects one of Giorgio Armani's fundamental principles: deconstruction, i.e. the lightening of the traditional structure to make room for a more natural, fluid fit that is closer to the body. The item is made in a wool and cotton blend and stands out for its essential and balanced construction, defined by a V-neckline that enhances the linearity of the garment. The single-breasted construction maintains a clean, rigorous aesthetic, while the side pockets integrate discreetly into the overall design. On the back, the martingale introduces a functional and adjustable element that recalls the sartorial tradition, without overloading the silhouette. The Autumn/Winter collection of 1990 evokes the elegance of the early 1930s, reinterpreted through the sack suit idiom: a relaxed, flexible cut, with natural, unpadded shoulders and a silhouette that lengthens and then tapers slightly at the waist. The colour palette is built on deep, textured tones such as graphite grey, forest green, and burnished bronze, which helps define an intense, sophisticated image, linked to an autumnal mood.
