Description

Arguably the finest Americana reproduction brand from Japan, the Real McCoy's painstakingly recreate and update original garments for the modern day offering the best from the past, replicated to perfection without compromise in Japan. Introduced by the U.S. Army during the Korean War in the early 1950s, the M-1951 commonly known as the Fishtail Parka, was designed to provide soldiers with warmth and protection in harsh winter conditions. The parka was originally a two-part system, consisting of a durable outer shell and a removable insulated liner, allowing it to be adapted to varying climates and worn year-round. Beyond its military origins, the M-51 went on to become a symbol of counterculture cool. In postwar Britain, the parka was adopted by the Mods of the 1960's, who used it to protect their tailored suits while riding scooters. During the Cold War era, large surpluses of U.S. military clothing were distributed across Europe, making the M-51 both affordable and accessible. This availability cemented its status as a staple of thrift and surplus fashion, bridging practicality with cultural identity. The new Model 220 from McCoy's is a reproduction with sizing specs close to the original adopted in 1951. Cut from a dense, thick cotton, the shell will soften with use due to its sateen weave, creating a unique drape over-time. All other period correct details are present, with two slash pockets w/flap closure & full wool lining, concealed placket w urea buttons, original repro McCoy's front zipper & large hood with drawstring & leather tabs. - 100% cotton - Sateen fabric - M-51 reproduction - Two slash pockets with flap closure - Wool lined pockets - Urea buttons - McCoy's original front zipper - Large hood w/drawstring and leather tabs - MJ22003 - Made in Japan
