A decade later, following our reacquisition of the brand, we contacted our old pattern maker. Miraculously they had the pattern for our 5-Pocket Pants—it was our missing link. We re-assembled the team—our original technical designer and fit experts—and got to work recreating this icon. The 5-Pocket—as it always was—is engineered for comfort and mobility. We've maintained the exact fit that defined the original: a classic straight leg with a medium rise that sits at the waist. While previously made in Italy, we're proud to partner with one of our most trusted pant makers, based in Kentucky. For the first time, we offer the 5-Pocket in canvas: 12-ounce, 100% pre-shrunk cotton with triple needle inseams, bartack reinforcements, and engineer stripe front pockets. Trusted by many, the 5-Pocket is back, and only gets better with age. Product Details Attention to detail distinguishes these pants: full-felled inseams, yoke, and back rise provide exceptional durability, while seam-busted side seams lie perfectly flat for unmatched comfort. The back pocket features meticulous hand-stitching—no automated equipment—executed by highly skilled sewers in South Central Kentucky. Zippers are YKK, the branded Best Made shanks are alloy, and the back patch is a rough-out leather. Our 12-ounce canvas marks a significant evolution in the 5-Pocket tradition. Pre-shrunk, this robust fabric delivers durability without stiffness. Canvas's plain weave construction creates a denser, more tightly packed surface than denim's diagonal twill pattern, resulting in superior abrasion resistance. The uniform thread distribution prevents snags and wear-through that commonly afflict denim twill fabrics, particularly at contact points. Triple needle inseams and bartack reinforcements ensure longevity at stress points, while the cotton weave develops character over time. Unlike raw denim, this canvas offers immediate comfort without sacrificing durability. We chose a non-stretch canvas for a good reason. Our favorite garments—be it a rough and tumble chore jacket or a finely tailored suit—are defined by careful design and construction, not artificial elasticity. Without elastane or spandex, our pants maintain their shape where stretch fabrics will ultimately sag.
