We've always loved a popover. Few woven shirts are as timeless or as time-tested. Four buttons and a collar: less bulk, fewer failure points, nothing to catch on the work at hand. A refreshing change for a closet lined with button-ups. Ours is anchored by a Japanese yarn-dyed cotton-linen blend, woven at a medium weight that holds its shape. Yarn dyeing is a slower, costlier process, but the color runs deeper and fades along the lines of wear rather than off the surface. This shirt will age well. Historically, we've offered popovers in either winter-weight, wool or flannel, or summer-weight and short-sleeved. This time, we wanted one that could be worn year-round. The linen throws a slub through the weave, giving the cloth its irregular, hand-loomed character. Wear it tucked or untucked, under a sweater or with a pair of shorts. Product Details The cloth is a Japanese yarn-dyed blend of 70% cotton and 30% linen. Warp and weft are dyed individually before weaving, a process that saturates each fiber to its core rather than coating the surface of finished cloth. Piece-dyed fabric gives up its color early and unevenly; yarn-dyed fabric holds depth in the shadows and fades along the lines of wear. The linen is spun with the natural slub, and those thicker passages take dye differently from the rest, which is what gives the finished cloth its irregular, hand-loomed look and feel.
