Yoshida Porter Smoky Shoulder Bag

Originally debuted in 2002, Porter Yoshida & Company released their first Smoky collection. Through this collection, Porter utilizes Cordura duck canvas fabric to create a sturdy construction. Additionally, their complex weaving technique has allowed the bags from this collection to improve with age. The Smoky collection relies heavily on craftsmanship, from the thread to the weaving process. As a result, one of their most durable and adaptable bags was created. To produce this sturdy material, Zimbabwean cotton was used for the warp, and Cordura nylon for the weft, resulting in a complex yet reliable fabric. Although I acquired this bag from Grailed with minimal information about its origin, I was able to identify it through a reverse image search. After some digging, I found that the bag's serial number is 592-06582, and further details can be found on Porter Yoshida's website. Upon receiving the bag, it was dirty, and its velcro was somewhat tarnished. However, I had bought it second hand as a vintage item, so the condition was to be expected. After washing it a few times, I noticed that some of the corners were scuffed, but I also saw Porter's vision of how these bags are meant to improve with age. The bag's functionality includes a main zippered compartment that is covered by a flap with spring snaps, which secure onto two front velcro pockets. On the back of the bag, there is another small zippered compartment that can serve as a hidden stash pocket. The main compartment also features a Velcro pocket large enough to hold mail or accessories of similar size. Overall, this bag is one of my best "on-the-go" bags and can be styled in a variety of ways. Its color may fade over time, in line with Porter's mission to create a lona-lastina, aaina baa.
