Met Gala Series: American Woman
If you know me, then you know the Met Gala is my Super Bowl😌✨ So in honor of leading up to it, I wanted to create Streetwear & contemporary looks to represent the last 20 years of Met Gala themes (2006–2025). I have a quick description of what each celebrated + the red carpet vibe. I hope you enjoy this series & would love to hear what Met Gala themes were your favorites!🖤✨
2010 — American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity
Focused on the evolving style of American women from 1890–1940.
Vibe: vintage glamour, early 20th-century silhouettes.
Going into this one i thought i would style something similar to Dior’s new look. But looking at the carpet and pieces from the exhibit i found myself going more for the gowns from the late 1890s-1900s. That’s where this gorgeous corset top from Zimmermann comes in. I paired it with this beautiful midi sequin skirt. It’s modern but still a small nod to the pink colors we saw on some of the gowns exhibited and the sequins are for the flapper era. To make it more casual, i added this Jacquard jacket. Jacquard is so beautiful and intricate, similar to the details we see in earlier fashion designs from this era. Overall I’m pleasantly surprised with how this turned out and really love it. It’s modern, feminine, and powerful.
