The beauty of restraint — and the way modest silhouettes can be reimagined for today… I’ve always been drawn to clothing that leaves something to the imagination. There is something incredibly beautiful about a silhouette that is almost entirely covered, yet still feels deeply feminine. I find myself especially drawn to the modest dressing traditions of American communities, where high necklines, long sleeves, fitted waists and softly structured silhouettes create a very particular kind of femininity. But what interests me is not the tradition itself — it is the way these elements can be translated into a contemporary wardrobe. A blouse like this can be worn with a long black skirt for something more romantic, or with denim and black ballet flats for an entirely different, everyday feeling. The same piece can feel historical and modern at once. Perhaps that is what attracts me most: the restraint. Nothing is overly exposed, yet the shape of the body is still present — through the waist, the shoulders, the sleeves, the construction of the garment. It feels feminine without needing to reveal very much. I put together a small selection of pieces that capture this feeling for me — somewhere between another era and the way I would want to dress today.
