Met Gala Series: Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçon

If you know me, then you know the Met Gala is my Super Bowl😌✨ So in honor of leading up to it, I wanted to create Streetwear & contemporary looks to represent the last 20 years of Met Gala themes (2006–2025). I have a quick description of what each celebrated + the red carpet vibe. I hope you enjoy this series & would love to hear what Met Gala themes were your favorites!🖤✨ 2017 — Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between Honored avant-garde designer Rei Kawakubo. Vibe: sculptural silhouettes, deconstruction, conceptual art. For this theme I wanted to do Streetwear maximalist, playing into Rei Kawakubo’s designs and doing head to toe Comme des Garçon. I loved the pink ruffle look and inspired to find pieces to play on that. I found these great ruffle pants and pored them with this red satin blouse with dramatic sleeves. Then to add more to the look i layered over this ruffle tank to it. Constructionally it all plays so well together. Then of course i needed to include the Comme des Garçon converse collab! The jewelry is all statement pieces. These red rose earrings felt adjacent to Rei’s red designs. And to complete the look, a fun wool hat with ruffle trim. It’s kinda a tamed maximalist but i think it works for the theme. #reikawakubo #metgala #commedesgarcon #avantgarde #statement #ruffles #layers #converse #magdabutrym #driesvannoten #davidwebb #beabongiasca #streetstyle
