Description

Comme des Garçons SHIRT Collection: Archive (1990s) Composition: 100% cotton Made in France. This archival top from the CdG SHIRT line is in excellent used condition, the first owner purchased it directly from CdG in the late 1990s. This unique print showcases a rich tapestry of varied iconography and symbols including both Latin and Cyrillic scripts alongside Arabic numerals. Pastoral themes, everyday items, and abstract symbols in a muted earthy tone against the lighter background creates a visual narrative that is both chaotic and cohesive, a perfect encapsulation and representation of the Comme des Garçons avant-garde design aesthetic. The cultural and linguistic references are broadly Slavic, and perhaps a post-Soviet cultural context that encompasses culture and history ranging from Eastern Europe to Eastern Asia. A cultural and historical reflection on this broad region post-USSR, blending symbols from multiple former Soviet states. The print contains letters from the Cyrillic script, used in languages across many Cyrillic-using Slavic cultures. Some of the recognizable letters include "Ч" (Che), "Ш" (Sha), "П" (Pe), and "Б" (Be). There are also complete words and phrases. For example, "Юра" (Yura), which is a common male name, and "Вова" (Vova), a diminutive form of the name Vladimir. "Киев" (Kiev) is also visible in the print, which is the capital of Ukraine. The print also includes illustrations that represent elements from across the Cyrillic-using Slavic cultures, history, and folklore. Images of trees, animals, musical notes, and everyday objects, blending practicality of everyday life with metaphor and myth.
