Description

Y's for Men - Yohji Yamamoto Collection: Archive (1990s-2000s) Item Number: MW-B12-009 Composition: Cotton (100%) Made in Japan. This oversize cotton shirt features a unique dual-colour weave, appearing dark purple with hints of blue depending on the light (see photos). This effect is a result of Yohji choosing to use a cross-dyed fabric, also known as “shot cotton.” It is achieved by weaving together threads of two different colours, usually with one colour in the warp (lengthwise threads) and another in the weft (crosswise threads). This creates a fabric that appears to change colour depending on the angle of the light and viewing perspective. The shirt has two pockets, cuff buttons, and a concealed placket (an extra layer of fabric that hides the buttons). It is in excellent used condition, with all buttons intact, including the original extra button on the care tag, and has just a few threads and a light mark on the sleeve (see macro photos). The shirt is cut oversize for a Medium, similar to a modern Yohji size 2. It has a later original period Y's for Men tag which means it is from before 2009, possibly from the 1990s. Approximate Measurements: • Chest: 24 ⅞” (63 cm) • Length: 35 ⅞” (91 cm) • Shoulders: 21 ¼” (54 cm) • Sleeve Length: 23 ¼” (59 cm) • Hem: 26 ½” (67.5 cm) Y's for Men was Yohji Yamamoto's first and original menswear line which ran from 1979 to 2009. He created it based on the idea of clothing for men that would complement his Y's line for women thereby "enabling a man to look his best when standing next to her." The Y's for Men line has always been inspired by Yohji's personal wardrobe. In 2023 the Y's for Men line returned after a 13 year break, and is now a current line again with new collections. Offers welcome. Please ask all questions before buying. Items are as pictured and described. Shipping from British Columbia, Canada. Final sale, no returns.
