Description

Red Label, Y's for Men - Yohji Yamamoto Collection: Archive (2000s) Tag Size: 3 Made in Japan. These striped pants come from the limited edition Y's for Men Red Label line. The pattern is known as a "broken stripe," made up of dashes instead of a solid line, creating a unique texture and appearance. When held up to the light you can see through the stripe embroidery pattern. It is a light and well ventilated material but not at all transparent, so especially good for spring, summer, and autumn. The material tag is blank from dry cleaning, common for garments of this age that have been regularly cleaned. These feel like a cotton-blend, with a nice bit of stretch, and the fabric is textured, finely woven, and has an intricate striped pattern, incorporating a distinctive red stripe that adds a unique touch to the dark background. The waist is elastic with double buttons, belt loops, and four pockets. There are a few light spots on the upper right front hip, see photo. The hems have a bit of normal wear but overall the pants are in great used condition. All buttons are intact. The waist easily goes up to 17" (~43cm) straight across, making the measured waist size anywhere from a 28" to 34", tag size is 3. Approximate Measurements: • Waist: 13 ⅛” (33.5 cm) • Inseam: 28 ¾” (73 cm) • Leg Opening: 7 ⅞” (20 cm) • Front Rise: 11 ⅞” (30 cm) • Thigh: 12 ⅝” (32 cm) • Knee: 9 ¼” (23.5 cm) The Y's for Men Red Label line was a limited edition collaboration between Yohji Yamamoto and Michiko Suzuki (a protege of Yohji's who had worked as a lead pattern-maker) launched in the 2000s. Inspired by exploring the feelings of "love" and "hate" this line is one of my personal favourites of Yohji's archival work to collect. The Y's for Men Red Label pieces are always unique while also calling back to the materials, design, tailoring, and craft of pieces in the YFM and YPPH lines. This men's line is in some ways related to, but shouldn't be confused with, the "Y's Red Label" collection for women launched in the late 2000s. Y's for Men was Yohji Yamamoto's first and original menswear line which ran from 1979 to 2009. He created it based on the idea of clothing for men that would complement his Y's line for women thereby "enabling a man to look his best when standing next to her." The Y's for Men line has always been inspired by Yohji's personal wardrobe. In 2023 the Y's for Men line returned after 13 years and is now a current line again. Offers welcome. Please ask all questions before buying. Items are as pictured and described. Shipping from British Columbia, Canada. Final sale, no returns. For more avant-garde collecting: @ehtersono
