Raised by an adoptive father who was a mapmaker, Ackermann spent his early years travelling the world and taking in the charm of Ethiopia, Chad, Algeria, and France before finally settling down in the Netherlands. Captivated by the distinct stylistic differences in each region, Haider Ackermann attended Antwerp’s infamous Royal Academy of Fine Arts in 1994 to pursue a career in fashion. After flourishing beyond imaginable reason, Ackermann began to lose interest in his classwork and began to deter his attention towards hands-on experience. In 1997, he was expelled from the academy for failing to submit his assignments. Only a few short months later, Ackermann began interning for the infamous John Gallino at Dior, which is a clear testament to his capabilities. 2001 marked the beginning of Haider Ackermann’s eponymous label. When asked about his future, he responded to a Vogue Greece interviewer with an answer that truly allows us to reflect upon ourselves. “There is something very unstabilizing about not knowing where you're coming from or where you're going. There's something very romantic about it, because you have this search for the unknown. But at the same time, sometimes I'm like, "God, if I were to die tomorrow, where would I like to be buried?"
